The Mini MBA Story!

It was in a meeting with a client that I heard him highlighting the need for his procurement team to build more commercial and business acumen, as the absence of such acumen could affect negatively his efforts to bring procurement to a highly regarded & respected strategic business partner.

 

After that meeting I thought we may have stumbled upon something. Our research team then got to work and found out that 2 top priorities (among top 3) for CPOs included training & development and cross function & collaboration. The first related mainly to skill development and the latter included how procurement works not only with engineering and quality but also with other functions like finance and controlling, sales and marketing, logistics and supply management. Lately, the Deloitte Global CPO Survey 2014 shows that 57% of CPOs feel their teams lack the skills to deliver their procurement strategy, which is up from 48% in 2013. The talent deficit is particularly apparent in Asia where the number is 81% of CPOs. Only 28% of CPOs feel they are well positioned as highly regarded and respected strategic business partners.

 

The majority of 68% of CPOs still described their influence as 'mixed', suggesting that they are yet to create a sufficient demand for their services or are focusing on the wrong agenda. Apparently this 68% group still measures only financial performance, rather than a broader set of parameters that include risk, supplier performance, innovation & quality.

1. Is there any Certification for the Mini MBA?

 

A certification program involves among many other things an exam. Exams usually bring to mind academic learning and this program might be many things but one things it is not - academic.

 

The Mini MBA for Procurement is for senior procurement executives and provides hands on, practical, tested & proven strategies that help to move to a higher level of procurement management & leadership.

 

For those requiring a certification, there are already well known worldwide organisations that offer procurement certifications - for example CPSM from ISM (USA) and MCIPS from CIPS (UK). We do conduct preparatory exam course for those wanting to obtain any of these certifications.

 

2. What are the pre-requisites for the Mini MBA/What's the Level of Seniority & Experience Participants should have?

 

To ensure effective learning not only for one participant, but for the whole group of participants there are 2 pre-requisites to attend this course:

 

a. you need to have at least 5 years experience in procurement &

b. you are currently leading or managing others as a team leader or at a higher level.

3. What's the maximum number of participants?

 

There's a limit of 18 participants for the course, to enable personal interactions with instructors and with other peers participating in the course.

 

4. Special offers ... ?

The regular investment fee for the Mini MBA for Procurement is USD 5,995 per participant. However, for every 3 participants that you confirm, the 4th participant attends for free. A great cost avoidance of 25% off the regular investment fee. Remember to capture this under your cost savings reporting.

 

5. How long has this course been running?

We started this course in October 2014 and due to the excellent response from participant we ran it again in December 2014. The Mini MBA for Procurement has also been conducted for one of our clients as in-house training.
